There's something truly special about growing up by the sea, and my heart is full of so many fond memories! ❤️ From scorching hot summers as a kid to adventurous days out in the dinghy even when it was raining, the beach was my playground. I remember countless hours building magnificent sandcastles and embarking on epic quests to dig the deepest holes imaginable.

And who could forget those classic moments? Listening to Soul II Soul on the beach, watching friends confidently slather on Factor 2 (oh, how times have changed!), and exploring the cool, shadowy world underneath South Parade Pier.

Now, as a parent, I'm making new seaside memories with my own children, and it's just as magical. We've had hilarious moments with them painting themselves before a dip in the sea, the stress (and eventual laughter) of the car getting stuck in the stones at Hayling, and the pure panic of my son getting lost on a very busy Southsea beach (thankfully, quickly found!). We've embraced new adventures like paddleboarding and embarked on exciting treasure hunts.

The seaside has given me a lifetime of joy, from my own childhood escapades to the precious moments I share with my kids today.

Let’s talk wardrobe for your family beach photo session—because I get it, the struggle is real when it comes to finding the perfect outfits for everyone (from toddlers to adults).

You want your photos to look put together but not over the top, right? Here are some tips to help you keep things simple, stress-free, and beach-ready!

1. Coordinate, Don’t Match

When you’re planning outfits for the fam, think coordinating colors, not identical ones. Choose a color palette with two or three tones that work well together. The beach is a natural backdrop, so colors that vibe with sand, sea, and sky are always winners. Think soft pastels, whites, and blues, or go earthy with muted greens and khakis.

Do:

Pick complementary colors across everyone’s outfits.

Use a mix of solids and subtle patterns. A light floral dress or a checked shirt can add a nice pop without overwhelming the vibe.

Don’t:

Go too “matchy-matchy” (like everyone in the exact same white shirt). It can look a little basic in photos.

When you go visit please remember not to stand on the flowers. It takes them 4 years to recover. As a protected species, it's also illegal to pick them.

Enjoy the beauty, take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints (not on the flowers mind!).

"It is important to avoid accidently damaging the plants with your camera equipment, or your feet. When plants are trampled, not only does this reduce the enjoyment of others, also the bluebell bulbs can’t produce enough energy to survive and to flower the following year, so they die. We recently visited the woods and strategically stood around the bluebells and explained to my sons that they are a protected flower and why its so important to protect nature 🌿
