You Deserve to Be Seen: Why Every Mum Needs to Step Out From Behind the Camera
A family photography shoot is about capturing connection, joy, and the unique story of your family as it is right now. We plan the outfits, scout the perfect location, and manage the chaos with a professional smile, making sure everyone looks perfect... except, too often, one person is missing from the frame: Mum.
At Beside the Seaside Photography, I'm here to tell you it's time to change that.
I’m Sophia, and for me, this isn't just a business motto—it's a mission.
My personal "act of service," my true love language, is also when out and about making sure to include the Mums taking the photos. This sometimes leads to the annoyance of my own family, as they always have to wait whilst I do so! But I firmly believe it's one of the most important things I can do.
I think it is HUGELY important for US mums to get into the photos 📸.
Why Your Children Need to See You in the Picture
The reasons Mums avoid the camera are well-known: “I need to lose weight,” “I didn’t do my hair,” “I look tired.” But when you look back on your childhood photos, were you ever critiquing your own mother’s appearance? Absolutely not. You were looking at her love.
This is the central truth: the photographs you have taken today are not for you; they are a legacy for your children.
* A Visual History of Love: Your children want to see the way you held them, the way you smiled at them, and the simple, everyday gestures of your care. These images are tangible proof of your unconditional love and presence in their lives.
* The Main Character: You are the heart of your home. You orchestrate the magic, manage the logistics, and pour your soul into raising your family. Your children need a visual reminder that you were the main character in their world. One day, these photos will be their most treasured possessions.
The Power of Being Seen
This concept of maternal visibility is one that the Law of Attraction expert and podcast host, Francessca Amber, speaks beautifully to in her work on empowering mothers. While her focus is on manifestation, her message deeply resonates with the importance of a mother’s presence and worth.

As Francessca says,
"Mothers are the main characters of their own story, and they deserve to be seen. You are manifesting an incredible life for your family—make sure you are in the picture, not just taking it."
✨️This isn't about vanity;
✨️ it's about claiming your worth.
✨️ You deserve to occupy space.
✨️ You deserve to be documented.
✨️ You deserve to be visible in the beautiful life you are creating.
For so long, mothers have been the quiet documentarians of their family's lives, holding the camera while standing outside the frame. Stepping into that photo is an act of empowerment and self-love.
It's Time to Step into the Light
During your next session, whether it's with Beside the Seaside Photography or a spontaneous snap with your phone, remember these three things:
* Don't Wait for Perfect: Perfect is an illusion. The real you—the tired, loving, messy, amazing you—is who your children will want to see.
🖤🖤🖤
* It's a Gift to Your Future Self: Your future self will be endlessly grateful for those images, far more than you can imagine now.
🖤🖤🖤
* Hire a Professional: A professional family photographer knows how to use light, composition, and posing to make you look and feel your absolute best, capturing the authentic love that supersedes any temporary insecurity.
